When Jim started out in the hot rod world, he and his friend Vic Murphy were just a couple of kids. Since they were young and poor in San Diego, CA, they had no money to buy clean bodies with. Vic and Jim built this truck from a Model A cowl, doors mixed with a roof from a 1967 Ford truck, and pieces of a 1969 Dodge van. The van also provided the running gear to make it move. An old tube axle from a drag car was cut up to accept the van's brakes. Steering came from a Corvair. The rest was made from what they had.
